The Argosy, Vol. 21
This Victorian periodical features the serialized novel *Edina* by the author of *East Lynne*, illustrated by M. Ellen Edwards, spanning eighteen chapters from "Heard at Midnight" through "At Eagles' Nest." The narrative concerns Rosaline Bell and the titular Edina, involving romance, scheming, a wedding, and mysterious revelations culminating at a location called Eagles' Nest. The issue also contains *Johnny Ludlow's Papers*—a series of sketches including "Rose Lodge," "The Angels' Music," and "Ketira the Gipsy." Additionally, there are numerous short stories by named authors including Emma Rhodes (*Outward Bound*, *The Prison Hawk*), Charles W. Wood (travel pieces set in Grenoble and Savoie), Mary Cecil Hay (*Through Wind and Rain*), and Anne Beale (*Come and Teach Us*). The collection spans domestic drama, poetry, and travel writing, with accompanying illustrations by M. Ellen Edwards depicting key scenes.
