Lady Grace by Mrs. Henry Wood *The Argosy*, August 1887, contains Chapter XI of "Lady Grace" by Mrs. Henry Wood, author of *East Lynne*. Charles Baumgarten, a young barrister, faces a forged bill for eighty-one pounds bearing his signature—yet he insists he never signed it. The jeweler White claims Baumgarten purchased jewelry, accepted the bill at his counter, and even drank Madeira in his back room. Baumgarten emphatically denies all dealings with White. Compounding this mystery, his friend Peter Chester reveals that another man resembling Baumgarten was seen at the Haymarket Theatre the previous evening with an unknown woman, and another acquaintance, Satchel, even spoke to this man. Baumgarten becomes convinced someone is impersonating him. The serial ends as Charles returns to his chambers to investigate further.
