Munsey's Magazine, December 1927
This December 1927 Munsey's Magazine issue contains "Be Yourself!"—a complete novelette by Edgar Franklin about a young mechanical engineer's unconventional scheme. William Rodgers, repeatedly unemployed after three firms collapse around him, discovers he is a striking physical double for Samuel Lorne, a newly wealthy oil magnate from California with forty-four million dollars. After convincing his skeptical roommate Henry Field, Rodgers decides to approach Lorne with an entrepreneurial proposition: become his professional "double," earning a hundred dollars weekly by impersonating him when business engagements require his presence in multiple locations simultaneously. The narrative follows Rodgers' determination to pursue this audacious opportunity despite practical obstacles and Henry's doubts, setting up complications promised by the story's subtitle.
