Asalto al heliexpreso
"Asalto al Heliexpreso" (Attack on the Heliexpress) This science fiction story by W. Sampas (©1960, Toray, Spain) appears in the S.I.P. (Spacial International Police) pulp collection. The narrative follows Miles Hall, a former elite SIP agent now destitute and starving on Earth's streets during Christmas. Once celebrated for single-handedly capturing the criminal Strasser, Hall squandered his retirement pension on stock market speculation. Struck by a vehicle while delirious with hunger, he's hospitalized and identified by fingerprints. SIP Director Donald Callowan visits Hall in the Washington hospital, discovers his circumstances, and—despite regulations—offers him light work with the agency to support his daughter Cyntia, now twenty, at school in Stone City, Mars. Hall accepts gratefully. The narrative then transitions to Hall's assignment aboard a transport convoy, setting up what appears to be a heist plot involving the "Heliexpress" mail vehicle. The text becomes fragmentary at the final section.
