Murder Makes the Corpse
Murder Makes the Corpse A detective story by Sean Gregory featuring press agent Mack Regan. Set in Hollywood, the narrative opens with Lieutenant Grimsdyke briefing Regan on four grave robberies within twelve months—an unexplained string of missing corpses. After discussing the mystery over drinks, Regan receives an urgent telephone call from Kay Ransome, a singer requesting his services. She never appears at their planned dinner meeting. The next morning, Regan learns from newspaper headlines that Ransome was murdered by .38 caliber gunshot. Her younger sister Lynne visits his office, believing Kay was in serious trouble and asking Regan—whom she takes for a private detective—to find her killer. Regan declines, but offers to relay police information. The police have no leads. Subsequently, Alvar Domonici, proprietor of Peaceful Acres cemetery, calls requesting a meeting. The narrative continues with Regan visiting the elaborate funeral home, where Domonici begins soliciting his services.
