Catalog Note This January 1946 issue of *Weird Tales* (Vol. 38, No. 3) features three novelettes and five short stories spanning supernatural, science fiction, and adventure genres. The lead novelette, "Lost Elysium" by Edmond Hamilton, is a sequel to his earlier "The Shining Land"; it follows Brian Cullan's desperate attempt to breach the Gateway between Earth and Tir Sorcha, the Celtic "Shining Land" existing on a different plane of vibration. During a mid-Atlantic storm, Cullan's enchanted ring—"The Unlocker"—responds to lightning, transporting his yawl into the golden, misty realm where time flows differently and the ancient Tuatha De (Celtic gods) still dwell. He seeks Fand, a princess he loved during his previous visit. Other stories include Allison V. Harding's "The Murderous Steam Shovel," featuring a mechanically vengeful piece of construction equipment, and Roger S. Vreeland's "The Mad Dancers," concerning a mysterious plague. Short fiction includes August Derleth's "Mrs. Lannisfree," Harold Lawlor's "The Cranberry Goblet," and Robert Bloch's "Soul Proprietor," among others.
