Catalog Note: Weird Tales, November 1948 Theodore Sturgeon's novelette "The Perfect Host" opens this issue of Weird Tales. The story begins with fourteen-year-old Ronnie Daniels waiting outside a hospital where his mother has just given birth. A mentally disturbed woman calls from a second-floor window, gives Ronnie an address in a suburban development called Homeland, then jumps. Both Ronnie and his father witness something extraordinary: the woman's body seems to vanish, leaving only a small blood stain. The narrative then shifts to Ronnie's father, Benton Daniels, providing his perspective of the same events. The story establishes itself as a psychological/supernatural tale concerned with perception and reality.
