Wild West Weekly No. 660

This issue of *Wild West Weekly* (No. 600, June 11, 1915) contains "Young Wild West's Great Scheme," a serial authored by "An Old Scout" about railroad construction in the Black Hills. The narrative opens in Spondulicks, where four men plot to prevent protagonist Young Wild West from building a railroad from Spondulicks to Weston. George Jacobs, president of a stagecoach company threatened by the railroad, hires two hired guns—Saffron Joe and Crafty Keel—to eliminate Wild. Saffron Joe demonstrates his deadly pocket-shooting technique, hitting a hat from close range. They learn that Wild and two newly arrived railroaders (locomotive engineers from Chicago) plan to commence construction Monday. In the second chapter, Wild discusses his railroad venture with Proprietor Brown and Cheyenne Charlie at Weston. Wild explains the project involves laying twenty miles of track connecting Spondulicks to elevated tableland, with freight handling via elevators. He plans to meet surveyors in Spondulicks that morning to establish proper grading for the construction route.
