Andrew Graham Murray, 1st Viscount Dunedin — 'Lord Advocate'

Leslie Ward ('Spy') presents Andrew Graham Murray, then Scotland's Lord Advocate and future Viscount Dunedin, in conspicuously informal dress: a three-piece olive tweed suit with knickerbockers, striped shooting stockings, a red carnation buttonhole, and a bow tie over a salmon waistcoat — country-gentleman ease worn as political self-presentation. Both hands are pocketed, the posture unhurried, the moustache trim. The caption simply reads *'Lord Advocate'*. The plate appeared on 22 October 1896 at plate number 680 in the Statesmen series. Ward's caricature is mild — no grotesque distortion — reflecting Murray's reputation as a capable, uncontroversial Unionist law officer who would go on to serve as Secretary for Scotland and Lord President of the Court of Session.
