H.S.H. Prince Alexander of Teck

The caption reads simply *H.S.H. Prince Alexander of Teck*, identifying Queen Victoria's grandson and brother-in-law to the future George V. Ward renders him in three-quarter profile: a lean, erect figure in dark morning coat and striped trousers, top hat held at his side, amber cane planted on the ground, a neat cavalry moustache completing the air of military correctness. The caricature is notably mild — elongated posture and the moustache carry the comic weight. Politically, the image flatters rather than punctures: a royal in-law useful to the Court, lately soldiering in colonial campaigns, presented here as an ornament of Edwardian respectability rather than a subject of satire.
