Amazing Stories, July 1956

This is Project 10073 documentation from July 28, 1956, concerning UFO sightings in Wisconsin and Michigan. A single white object described as resembling a large light bulb with colored exhaust was observed for approximately three hours from Chilton, Wisconsin and near Cadillac, Michigan. The object displayed white coloring with occasional red flashes and colored lights at times, and exhibited vertical ascent before disappearing. Ground-visual observations were made by civilians and police; two brief three-second radar contacts were made by an F-89 aircraft. Air Force investigators and pilots concluded the sightings were attributable to the planet Venus, citing high-altitude winds that ruled out balloon explanations. Military and police officials interviewed reported no audible sound accompanying the object, which approached as close as 300 feet in some accounts and exhibited erratic movement patterns.
