Catalog Note *The Argosy*, Volume XLV (January-June 1888), edited by Charles W. Wood. The principal serial is "The Story of Charles Strange" by Mrs. Henry Wood (author of *East Lynne*), illustrated by M. Ellen Edwards, comprising 18 chapters across the volume and depicting the childhood and subsequent entanglements of its narrator—beginning with his mother's fatal illness at White Littleham Rectory in Hampshire, her deathbed counsel and gift of books, and progressing through legal complications, mysteries at Essex Street and Marshdale, courtroom drama at the Old Bailey, and the search for a missing will. Supporting fiction includes "Letters from Majorca" by Charles W. Wood, "Stories from the Studios" by various artists (S. E. Waller, T. Faed, E. Blair Leighton, Keeley Halswelle, W. W. Fenn, Thomas Woolner), and numerous short stories and poems by contributors including Agnes Giberne, Antony Herbert, Ella Edessheim, E.
