The Argosy, Volume XXXVII (January–June 1884) This bound volume of the London literary magazine *The Argosy* is edited by Mrs. Henry Wood. The issue contains the serialized novel *The White Witch*, illustrated by M. Ellen Edwards, depicting a Lancashire gentleman's unexpected remarriage. Godfrey Mayne learns his widowed father has married Mrs. Dixon, a widow met abroad in Nice, in Paris—a marriage that angers Godfrey, who suspects opportunism and threatens petty sabotage upon her arrival. The serial progresses through investigations, mysteries, locked doors, and moonlit encounters at abbeys and galleries.
