Beadle's Dime Novels No. 273: Little Thunderbolt

This issue collects two Beadle dime novels. The first, "The Two Corvettes" by Frederick Whittaker, is a sea romance centered on John Paul Jones. It depicts Jones as a naval warrior—chivalrous to allies, relentless against enemies—with a climactic account of his conquest of the British warship Drake. The narrative includes a romantic subplot involving Jones and Lady Flora Selkirk, whose lady's maid Rosalie proves treacherous, alongside Jones's Scottish father and the Earl of Selkirk. The second novel, "Little Thunderbolt" by Jos. E. Badger Jr., is a frontier tale set in the Carolinas. The opening chapters chronicle scout Steve Larrabee (nicknamed "Little Thunderbolt" by Cherokee) and his ranger company engaging hostile Indians in ambush combat near a forest defile. Larrabee detects an Indian assassin through minute observation, triggers firefights, and rallies his outnumbered men against coordinated enemy attacks.
