Buffalo Bill's Pony Patrol; or, The Mysterious Boy of the Overland By Colonel Prentiss Ingraham. Beadle and Adams, June 29, 1897, No. 1040. A dime novel serial featuring Buffalo Bill (William F. Slade instructs Buffalo Bill to follow undetected, using his hunter's leave as cover, prepared to rescue the coach from road-agents calling themselves the "Pony Police" should they strike. The narrative emphasizes themes of frontier adventure, masculine heroism, and conflict between lawful commerce and organized banditry.
