The Buckskin Detective; or, Claude Crecy, King of American Road-Agents

This is an installment of *Claude Crecy, King of American Road-Agents*, by T. C. Harbaugh, featured in this Beadle and Adams weekly publication from September 5, 1882. The serial depicts a daring stage robbery on the Denver-Salt Lake trail: a long-haired, handsome passenger reveals himself as the notorious road-agent Claude Crecy, who strikes the driver Zack Dragon from his seat to his death, then robs the mail sacks at gunpoint. A mysterious passenger emerges as "Buckskin Frank," a celebrated detective pursuing the outlaw, leaving a cryptic message for Colonel Scott mentioning "Dot." The narrative continues in Gold Gulch Camp, a mining town notorious for its gambling establishment, the Wheel of Fortuna, run by Rocky Rod. A newcomer inquires about the den while a local miner named Catamount Luke offers advice, hinting at Rocky Rod's accumulated wealth.
