After writing her confession and hiding it in Ransom's cache, she watches helplessly as armed pursuers ambush and kill both Ransom and the woman as she stands in the cabin doorway. The narrative shifts to Deadwood on Sunday, depicting the rough mining town teeming with activity. The story introduces the western adventure-serial genre typical of Beadle and Adams publications.
