Museum Catalog Entry *The Tussle With Satan*, by Ed. L. Wheeler. Deadwood Dick, Jr.—now a wealthy millionaire—is summoned by the governor to investigate Satan Sam, an outlaw terrorizing the See-Saw mining camp. The criminal has killed and robbed repeatedly; twice he's escaped pursuers by diving into a lake from a sheer precipice, disappearing mysteriously. The camp harbors the Scorpions of See-Saw, a secret vigilance committee whose exact membership and loyalty remain unclear—they may be opposing Satan Sam or working with him. Satan Sam sends a threatening letter warning the governor not to send Deadwood Dick. Undeterred, Dick sets out alone. He encounters a shabby rider on a mule named Spavins, reading posted notices warning him away from See-Saw. A bummer accosts them, prompting cryptic banter about the stranger's business and purpose in the mining camp.
