Meanwhile, the "Surf Angel"—a beautiful Gypsy girl named Gipsy Jule who lives near Castle Crag—watches the castle's revelry from outside. She gained her name rescuing a shipwrecked crew and is known for fearlessness and ambition. The narrative intercuts between Hurtel's despair and Jule's presence at Castle Cor, building toward their convergence amid the tempestuous night and romantic entanglements between the brothers.
