Alabama Joe; or, The Yazoo Man-Hunters," by Jos. E. Badger Jr., is a frontier adventure tale serialized in this February 1881 issue of the Adams Publishers weekly. A mysterious swamp dweller—"Alabama Joe"—singing a popular minstrel tune discovers him. Joe rescues Dawson using a trailing vine, pulling him to solid ground while warning against struggling.
