This 1892 pulp magazine installment of "Fighting Fred of Frisco" by T. C. Harbaugh follows three seventeen-year-old chums—Fred Nichols, Max Martin, and Ned Knight—abandoned at a remote cabin in the Cascade Mountains near the Columbia River. Their three guides, including the half-breed Captain Snake, deserted them mid-journey to Fort Okinakane in Washington Territory, taking the horses and supplies.
