Clark Carrados

Catalog Note "Ceniza, somos ceniza" (Ash, We Are Ash) by Clark Carrados is a Spanish-language horror-mystery serial appearing in *Bolsilibros: Selección Terror*. Eight wealthy investors—including Galton Morris, Ford McCroyd, Alina Sutterland, and Jack Kenner—each contributed £12,500 to finance scientist Vinson H. Daniels's experiments on a formula designated C-400. When Daniels refuses to surrender the patent, citing moral scruples about such a dangerous weapon, the conspirators vote to have him killed and the formula stolen. Morris hires assassins Warren Hards and Tommy Keany, who murder Daniels and recover documents from his safe. Morris then eliminates both hired killers to keep the secret. However, the envelope contains only blank pages with a final message: Daniels anticipated their treachery, destroyed all research notes, and warns that if he dies, all eight conspirators will receive lethal doses of C-400 as posthumous revenge. Subsequently, Kenner summons his young ward Leigh Quax to his estate, revealing he is dying—his flesh literally converting to ash, deteriorating visibly.
