Las brujas de Harlem
Catalog Note "Las brujas de Harlem" (The Witches of Harlem), by Lou Carrigan, presents a spy thriller combining international intrigue with supernatural elements. The narrative opens with Almor Kimbatu, a Koanda diplomat at the UN, murdered by his wife Niora with scissors during an intimate encounter after she demands he intervene in an unspecified American political matter. When he refuses, citing his vulnerable diplomatic position, she fatally attacks him. Two additional similar murders follow that night: diplomats from Gambia and Gabon killed by their wives using an abrecartas and kitchen knife respectively. Intelligence operative Brigitte Montfort ("Baby"), the CIA's most capable agent, is consulted by her sector chief Charles Pitzer. A surveillance agent reports the assailants mentioned witchcraft during psychological crises. Brigitte, experienced in exotic situations, is drawn into investigating whether supernatural forces or coordinated conspiracy underlies the synchronized attacks against African UN delegations.
