Buffalo Bill's Lost Clue

This issue of The Original Buffalo Bill Library (Aldine Series) contains the beginning of a Western adventure story titled "Buffalo Bill's Lost Clue." The narrative opens in New Mexico near Santa Fe at an outlaw settlement called "Cutthroat Hall," headquarters of the notorious desperado Grasshopper Bill and his gang. A genteel stranger arrives claiming to be Reverend Alec Kingston, a clergyman. The outlaws attempt to swindle him at poker, but Kingston outwits them by secretly eating an extra card slipped into his hand, then reveals his own superior hand and escapes with all the winnings. The outlaws pursue him, believing him connected to a treasure hunt involving the Comanches and a pending wedding. Meanwhile, Buffalo Bill and U.S. Cavalry troopers appear at Cutthroat Hall and apprehend Grasshopper Bill, who has outstanding arrest warrants. The narrative breaks off mid-scene.
