Marvel Tales, Vol. 1, No. 6 (December 1939) This pulp magazine contains five works of speculative and weird fiction. The lead novella, "The Angel from Hell" by Nils O. Sonderlund, concerns Carter Boyd and a golden bird-woman from hell, exploring whether their love can prevent civilization's collapse at the hands of the Alexander's Gray Minions and their destructive G-Ray technology. Two novelettes follow: Allan K. Echols's "Love's Lethal Ingredient," where the narrator finds himself permanently trapped witnessing a fiend seduce his fiancée in a half-world, and John Wallace's "Perfectionist Perdition," set in 2002 where the narrator's reluctance to marry endangers him. Three short stories conclude the fiction content. Ray King's "Lust Rides the Roller Coaster" features George Trant navigating fear and desire at a border. Arthur J. Burks's "My Bride Belongs to the Ages" involves Greta Stard, a scientist who resurrects lust-crazed aborigines from ancient graves. Brent North's "Girls for Satan's Utopia" warns against scientist-lovers. The issue is dominated by mail-order product advertisements for dental plates, electrical training, radio institutes, and various consumer goods.
