Catalog Note *The Golden Argosy*, July 23, 1897. This issue contains two serials and a poem. "Tom Gale's Ride" by George H. Coomer, presented here in chapters, follows a mischievous boy who joins the whaling ship *Warren* for a three-year voyage. After being promoted to boatsteerer, Tom finds himself clinging to a harpooned whale during a chase, riding the creature across three miles of ocean while thrusting a harpoon into it until the whale dies—a feat that becomes legendary among the crew. Tom later becomes a ship captain. The ongoing serial by Horatio Alger Jr. features Kit performing trapeze acrobatics in a circus after substituting for an indisposed performer. Between the stories appears "Cat-Tails," a poem describing a shallow pool with sedge grasses, lilies, and wildlife.
