Wrecked On The Bermudas: The Thrilling Adventures Of Three Boys
"Wrecked on the Bermudas" (W. E. Meyer, 1892) A maritime adventure featuring three brothers—Eugene (fourteen), Ivan (twelve), and Edgar (ten)—who embark aboard the aging barque *Neptune*, captained by the ill-tempered Captain Grump. The vessel, carrying petroleum cargo to England, encounters a collision and begins to sink. The boys, along with the ship's crew and dog, survive in the ship's stateroom as the *Neptune* becomes wrecked off the Bermudas. Stranded on the islands with minimal provisions, they establish a camp, create tools, hunt for food (crabs, birds' eggs, flying-fish), and discover a pirate cave containing emeralds, ambergris, and a copper kettle bearing inscriptions. Rescued after several weeks, they meet various Bermudian characters including Mr. Frank, Old Flounders the cook, and a shipwrecked sailor named Israel. The narrative concludes with sightseeing around the islands and the boys remaining in Bermuda as Mr. Frank courts a local woman.
