Red Hawk, blinded by a Lipan war club, attempts to hold Skull Pass against a horde of bloodthirsty warriors while relying on his other senses to navigate the dark world. Raiding for ponies is a custom of the Plains Indians, and Red Hawk must defend the Cheyenne herds while proving his courage despite his blindness. A character named Yellowback is revealed to be a coward who fled from fighting the Lipans, prompting Red Hawk to undergo three tests to prove his warrior spirit and restore honor to himself and the Cheyenne people.
