Army Attack #45
The main story, "The Bridge," centers on a critical tactical situation where the outcome of the war could hinge on a duel between Sergeant Otto Berchner, a tough professional Nazi soldier, and Corporal Al Hurlburt, an American draftee. An American unit must destroy a strategic bridge held by a German Panzer division, but Lieutenant Lykens devises a plan to use demolition charges to destroy it from within. As Lykens executes the mission by infiltrating the bridge with plastic explosives, he engages the Nazi forces in combat; ultimately, the bridge is destroyed and the German captain concedes defeat, declaring the Americans victorious as the armies of the Third Reich fall to defeat.
