"The Battlefield Kid" follows privates Jim Benson and Ted Dawes, who are trapped behind enemy lines during the Korean War with their only hope of escape depending on a missing soldier. When Able Company crosses the 38th parallel heading north, Private Benson distributes candy to hungry Korean children, which angers Sergeant Ted Dawes, who views it as a waste of rations. As the soldiers advance, Joe Folk leads a mission to destroy a machine gun nest on a nearby hill, and in the subsequent combat, grenades are lobbed at the enemy position, resulting in their defeat.
