During the Korean War retreat from North Korea, American soldiers face a harrowing withdrawal as Chinese forces close in around the peninsula. A Korean interpreter named Kim, reluctantly separated from his newly married wife, must make the difficult choice to stay behind and help the Americans rather than evacuate south with his family. As the troops race to escape across a river bridge, they encounter a motor pool engulfed in flames and chaos, while leadership debates whether to mount a counterattack or continue the retreat into the darkness.
