Battle Attack #8
The issue contains at least two war stories. "The Gambler" follows a young pilot with a gambling addiction who must fly a bomber mission despite his obsession; damaged by flak and enemy fighters, his bomber loses altitude near the White Cliffs of Dover, but he manages to bail out and survive, later telling the Flight Surgeon that his gambling compulsion drove him to stay with the crippled ship. A second story depicts American soldiers discovering an ancient stone idol in an enemy temple; when enemy scouts spot them, the soldiers use the idol as cover while fighting off an attack, and the idol's protective properties are noted to have shielded them from enemy fire just as it had protected people for centuries.
