Battle Cry #1 is an anthology of real combat stories from World War II. "The Battle for the Porkchop" details the Marine assault on Iwo Jima, describing the island's volcanic terrain, Japanese defenses centered on Suribachi, and the strategic importance of capturing the position for B-29 bomber operations. "Tale of a Tank" recounts the history of an M-26 tank built from scrap metal in Japan, which later serves in the U.S. Army, culminating in the funeral of Corporal Johnny Peters, a soldier associated with the vehicle.
