Upon exploring the ruins, he encounters the vanishing outlaw Thurman Carter and confronts him, but Carter escapes into the city. The story also includes a subplot involving a singer with an inflamed throat whom Bill assisted in New York, and concludes with a barber attempting to glue the singer's hair back on as a solution to his problem.
