Bill Boyd Western #3 features a story in which Beaver, a drifter, encounters a masked outlaw known as the Black Bandana near Red Blood Gulch. After the Black Bandana robs Beaver of his horse, gun, and wages, Beaver pursues him to town where he learns from the telegraph operator, Sparks, that the Black Bandana and his men have been arrested and are in jail. Monty, Beaver's acquaintance, helps return Beaver's belongings and horse, revealing his connection to the outlaw gang; Monty explains he was attempting to prevent Beaver from becoming involved in crime. The story concludes with Beaver discovering that Monty was actually working to stop him from joining the Black Bandana's criminal enterprise.
