Buffalo Bill Cody The story recounts how Buffalo Bill (William F. Cody, 1847-1917) first came to prominence as a frontier guide and scout in 1868, when he was engaged by Lt. Gen. Philip K. Sheridan as chief of scouts for the Fifth U.S. Cavalry. During this service, Billy rode over 300 miles in less than 60 hours to carry a message to Fort Dodge regarding a Cheyenne Indian outbreak, engaging in combat with Native American warriors and being shot in the ear during the mission. After a stray bullet wound leaves him stunned, his fellow soldiers decide to wait and discover his fate before pursuing the fleeing Gringos and their leader, Lopesta, whom they plan to track to his hideout.
