In "The Mantle of Suspicion," Billy the Kid becomes suspected of murder when a prospector and a boy are killed in the hills during a gold hunt, and suspicion falls on Billy due to the finger of guilt pointing his way. Billy teams up with a young boy named Tommy to prove his innocence by recovering a map that reveals the truth about the killings and the real culprit, Bull Hadley, who had attempted to silence witnesses to his crime. After a confrontation in which Hadley is killed and Billy recovers the map, Billy clears his name and shares the gold with Tommy as a reward for his loyalty and assistance.
