Black Diamond confronts outlaws working for the crooked Denton at his ranch, where they have been rustling cattle and killing lawmen. After discovering crooked horseshoe prints linking Denton to the crimes, Black Diamond tracks the villains to Denton's property. During the confrontation, Black Diamond is shot in the arm by Denton, but manages to defeat him. The issue concludes with the revelation that Mr. Grant had turned the railroad on purpose so SOS could buy up the land cheaply, and the sheriff plans to wreck the locomotive and derail the train to stop the scheme.
