Black Fury #51
Black Fury, the wild stallion and king of the wild horse herds, faces a crisis when a colt from his family is struck down by a lion during a dangerous encounter, prompting Black Fury to fight off the predator and protect his herd. The issue also includes a prose western story, "A Gunslinger Goes" by Sheriff Slidell, in which the narrator recounts his efforts to manage the problem of gunslingers in Conchero County and a particular trouble involving an ambitious young gunslinger named Ed Sutton who wishes to build a reputation for himself with his six-shooter. In the animal story's conclusion, Black Fury searches for and finds the injured colt, then battles the elements and a rampage to rescue the young mare from a torrent of rain, racing like the wind to reach safety.
