A woman named Katherine confides in her friend about her suspicions regarding Nicky, a new student who is putting on an act for her benefit, and later discovers he is actually a doctor who has fallen in love with her. When Katherine's mother disapproves and tries to warn her away, Nicky asks Katherine to wait for him indefinitely as he pursues a promotion that would give him control of a major company. In a separate romance, Nina becomes involved with Henry Dunne, an English literature teacher, who praises her diction and begins showing her excessive attention; when her mother questions this attention, Nina ultimately tells her mother the truth about Henry's interest, resolving the situation.
