Albert apologizes to Nancy for seeming weak, but she misunderstands and believes he is rude and conceited. When Miss Downey offers Albert the male lead in the school play, Nancy becomes furious and rushes away disappointed and angry. Nancy later tells Albert she would have been happy to be in the play with him, but under the circumstances she must refuse, leaving Albert bewildered by her reaction.
