"The Great Indian Flood" recounts a legendary tale from a Sioux chief that Buffalo Bill shares with his guests at Dismal River Ranch. According to the legend, a great spirit named Nan-Tan-In-Chor caused massive flooding that forced Indian giants to flee to the mountains, where they continued to raise the waters until they were all drowned. The narrative explains that the spirit then created different races of men, including a clay figure that overbaked into the Negro race, and a figure that underbaked into the Paleface.
