The story shifts to military action during wartime, with Buffalo Bill meeting with Colonel Bridges at Fort Hays to address threats from an enemy force led by Gray Fox, whose war party is conducting raids across the plains. As Annie rides to help her friend Theresa, she becomes caught up in confronting Slade's gang, who have falsely blamed Tom Rustled for stealing branded cattle, leading to a dramatic shootout where Annie uses her marksmanship skills to disarm the outlaws and help prove Tom's innocence before a sheriff's tribunal.
