Candy #37 (April 1953) When Ted Dawson asks Candy to the school dance at the last moment, she refuses and runs away to catch a train out of town. A elderly man warns her that a truck will hit her, and when she ignores the warning, he saves her life by pushing her out of harm's way. Grateful, Candy agrees to attend the lodge dance with him that evening as repayment. Meanwhile, Orville becomes jealous when Ted gives Candy an orchid, and he eventually reveals the flower to a judge at the ice rink who influences the judges' decision. At the dance, the dean warns Candy's date not to get drunk on whiskey, and she worries that Cosmo Gwynne might ruin the evening by getting the dean to limit visitors to once a week.
