The issue contains two stories: "Their Last Battle," the main feature, depicts the Cheyenne Kid and a Foot Surveyor standing alone against a Sioux war party near a river and waterfall, with the Sioux determined to prevent word of their actions from reaching the tribe's tribesmen. "The Defenders," a text story with historical illustrations, recounts Chief Sequi-to-tori's decision to lead Osage braves on a horse-stealing raid, the resulting treaty with white settlers, and the subsequent siege of the town of Sommerville in 1864 when Sequi-to-tori goes on the warpath, forcing townspeople to fortify and prepare for battle.
