Cheyenne Kid #37
"Flame on the Mountain" follows a sheriff confronting horse rustling in his territory. When ten horses disappear from a local ranch, the sheriff discovers that a man named Charles Ward has been acquiring stolen horses under the alias of an Army assist from Fort Carson. After the sheriff and his deputy apprehend Ward with evidence of the theft, Ward's conscience works on him during his jail stay, leading him to confess and implicate his accomplice Ellman. When Judge Pearson hears the case, Ward pleads for mercy for Ellman, resulting in Ellman receiving a fine and suspended sentence under Ward's probation care, and the two men eventually become good friends. In a separate narrative thread, Jesse searches for a beautiful young woman named Ken who had ridden a horse named Prince; discovering Ken is five years old and the horse cannot be broken, Jesse gives up his search.
