Clay Cody, a skilled gunslinger, helps break up a cattle drive operated by the outlaw Matt Devlin and his gang. After defeating Devlin's men in a gunfight, Cody is mistakenly arrested by the sheriff, who believes him to be the killer they're searching for. When a lawyer named Grady Holcomb takes a case against Cody, the story expands to reveal Holcomb's own troubles: after winning his case, he is threatened and driven out of town by Holcomb's angry friends, who ultimately kidnap his horse to punish him. Cody must work to clear his name while navigating the dangerous tensions between various parties seeking justice and revenge.
