"The Grim Game of War" depicts English soldiers on an arduous march who encounter an enemy threat on a mountain road. When a truck approaches, the soldiers take cover, realizing they have no adequate shelter and face overwhelming odds. Sergeant Giles conceives a plan to flank the enemy position, and an unnamed young officer, despite being dazed and unsteady from the difficult terrain, manages to reach a point above and on the flank of the enemy forces, positioning himself to launch an attack.
