Cookie, described as "The Funniest Kid in Town," becomes involved in a romantic scheme when Romeo Pickles has been raising dough by taking Debbie to a shindig in style, but doesn't want her to know he's poor—so he gets Cookie's help. Romeo plans to take Debbie to a local show, but a train mishap forces them to hitch a ride with Cookie and others instead; the group pretends to be wealthy to impress Debbie until Romeo can escort her properly at the observation platform. When a beautiful local girl appears at the train station, Romeo initially mistakes her for Debbie, leading to confusion and complications that are ultimately resolved when Romeo reveals himself and Debbie learns the truth, freeing him to pursue the other girl and attend a dance with her while Cookie and friends celebrate their successful meddling.
