This is an anthology issue containing at least two crime stories. "In the Back Room of the Professor" depicts three convicts—Pug, Steel Plummer, and Big Pedro—who escape from Northwestern Penitentiary and plan a major currency heist after learning from a railroad dispatcher about valuable freight shipments. "The Test of Death" features Raymond J. Hanley, a manipulative bank president, who blackmails cashier Clark Lipstone into murdering his business partner Max Jenkins by threatening to expose Lipstone's theft and affair; when Lipstone refuses and reports the scheme, Hanley's plan backfires as police close in on the criminals.
